Emergency Parent Coaching

"We had no idea that our 15 year old daughter was suffering from anorexia until she was put in the hospital. Low heart rate, blood pressure, panic attacks, yes we felt totally helpless and did not understand the how and the why. We were desperate to find her help and fast but had no idea where to even start. After several physicians recommended Lori to us we felt that we were in the right place. And boy were we! After a couple of months, Lori was able to give our daughter back to us! It has been a blessing to see her gain her self-confidence back and smile again. Thanks to Lori our daughter has made tremendous progress and on her path to complete recovery. We are so thankful that we found Lori and truly believe that she helped save our daughter. With our deepest gratitude, thank you."

- Julie, mother of Catherine, age 16

Initial Reactions and Experience

Every week I receive calls from distraught parents who have just found out their child is struggling with an eating disorder and are desperate to know what to do.  Usually the news comes out of the blue, and parents are usually in shock,  overwhelmed by a flood of feelings.  Here are some of the comments I’ve heard from parents just in the last month:

“We were totally blindsided when she told us”

"We didn't see this coming at all"

"This is totally beyond our understanding"

"It was a total shock"

And then come the questions, so many questions, and they need to be answered FAST.  The most common questions are:

I know nothing about eating disorders - what is the first step towards getting my child the right help?

Do I need to take my child out of school (or college) for treatment?

I don’t want to make things worse – what should I say?  What shouldn’t I say?

Is it our fault?

Will my child live with this illness in some form for the rest of her life?

How do I find my child the BEST help?

How do I find help that is affordable?

Mother comforting her sad daughter A Place to Get Started

I know that when your child has reached out to you for help for an illness that she has been struggling with painfully and alone, the last thing you have time for is to read through a ton of online information - information that is not specific to your child’s individual situation and needs.

_____________

You need answers, and the right ones, right away.

_____________

That is why I want to give my online readers a chance to receive coaching from me personally and cut through a lot of the tedious research process you would need to do on your own, without a guarantee of finding the right advice. Once you get your child the right treatment, you can take your time reading about eating disorders, but you need to secure relief for your child ASAP.

There can be lots of problems that come up for parents when they first start searching for help. I have a full-time practice that keeps me very busy.  However, I feel it is very important to make myself available to my online readers for immediate, one-on-one advice.  For this reason I have set aside four hours per week for emergency phone or Skype parent coaching.  It’s on a first come, first served basis, and I guarantee that you will have an appointment scheduled with me within 24 hours, even on the weekends. You can have a list of questions ready for me, and I will help you come up with a concrete action plan to get your child the best help as quickly as possible.

My Advice So You Can Be Prepared

Have your list of questions ready when you schedule your appointment.  I promise I will answer them completely and give you sound guidance on how to get your child the best help quickly, affordably, and avoid the pitfalls that so many other well-meaning and proactive parents have come across when trying to navigate the complicated world of eating disorders and treatment.  If you would like additional sessions for more support and guidance, you can schedule them at the end of our talk.

Don't hesitate to call me to set up to disucss pricing and set up a session.

"I want to let you know that you were the only therapist that called me back about my daughter. You were professional, kind, courteous and knowledgable. You understand how terrifying it feels for parents to find out their child has an eating disorder, and I want to let you know how appreciative I am that you called me back right away to schedule an appointment”

- Karen, age 52, mother of Annika.
